![]() The film ticks all the boxes from action to romance, but cannot avoid a sense of paint by numbers, an assembly of elements lacking a soul. Robin organizes the group, which includes Little John (Nick Brimble), Will Scarlet (Christian Slater) and eventually Friar Tuck (Mike McShane), into a band of thieves, and they start to gather wealth by hijacking gold shipments while Robin plots a course to stop the Sheriff and avenge his father.ĭirected by Kevin Reynolds, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves is an amiable enough romp through the legend. The Sheriff identifies Robin as a threat to his plans, prompting Robin and Azeem to escape into Sherwood Forest where they join forces with a band of farmers and misfits hiding from the Sheriff's brutality and high taxes. Decision Matrix, Chapter 5: Hanging Knight ![]() In 1957, only the second year that the Tonys featured nominees, as from 1947-1955 they simply presented the award without a nominating process, Julie Andrews was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Musical along with Ethel Merman (Happy Hunting) and Judy Holliday (Bells Are Ringing). You wanted to see more of her just to see what more there was to see. Energy, focus and drive were all there but they always seemed to be a controlled and subdued. She possessed elegance even as that downtrodden, low class waif Eliza Doolittle. Julie Andrews somehow seemed simply “to be” on stage in a quiet, confident manner. She was not your mega-voiced leading lady like Ethel Merman, or stunning, vibrant dancer/actress like Gwen Verdon, or brash and grounded presence like Mary Martin. She proved to be a fine singer who could certainly act her numbers. She was a wisp of a thing but one that had power and nerve. ![]() There was something stunningly pure in Andrews’ Eliza Doolittle. That can be seen in her number “Loverly” where she wins the hearts of those in the chorus and audiences. “Loverly” would become a signature song for Andrews. In her performance, she was genuine to the core. Harrison was not happy with Andrews at first. Was Andrews the perfect Eliza Doolittle? She certainly seemed to be. Harrison is reported to have said at one point, “If that girl is here on Monday giving the same goddamn performance, I am out of this show!” Andrews came around, Harrison stayed and legends were made. Apparently Andrews had a rough start in the rehearsal process as she struggled with the cockney accent and also with her characterization. It’s said that some people had their doubts about Julie Andrews playing Eliza Doolittle, including her co-star Rex Harrison. Today we focus on the only one who did not make the transfer from stage to the screen version of this classic musical- Julie Andrews. There are three performers who gave legendary performances in that first production of My Fair Lady- Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison and Stanley Holloway. When it closed it had set the new record for Broadway runs. After playing at the Hellinger, it transferred to the Broadhurst Theatre and then ended its run at the Broadway Theatre on September 29, 1962. Based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, My Fair Lady, which ran for 2,717 performances, featured music by Frederick Lowe and lyrics and book by Alan J. My Fair Lady premiered on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre (it is now the inter-denominational Times Square Church) on March 15, 1956. The Broadway musical My Fair Lady is considered to be one of the greatest American musicals and Julie Andrews portrayal of Eliza Doolittle is what made her a star. ![]() The only things missing from the listings seem to be Waves above Wave 1 of the Singles at this point, but the website sure had a lot of listings. Hopefully it comes with a Paradox disc, but for Lord Spryzen I hope they don't just rerelease Blitz and Dimension, since we have those parts for the Pro Series already. Soul is most likely the Naked base at this point, considering there's a pro series version of it. The Pro Series has two other beys releasing, Soul Balkesh and Lord Spryzen. At least Hasbro's making both modes, but I wonder if the Sword/Shield parts will be detachable or not. ![]() Origin Achilles could be a new Hasbro base, but it's probably just the shield version of the Infinite Base, since Infinite Achilles is in a starter pack. Kolossal Fafnir F6 and Mirage Helios H6 just seem to be made for each other, so it makes sense that they would be in the same wave of dual packs. World Spryzen is in it's own dual pack, and I really hope the Spryzen chip is dual spin, because having a left spin version of World without a Left spin Spryzen chip kind of sucks. ![]() There is a World Evo Helios H6, which could be the left spin "version" of World since it's by itself with the Evo Helios H6 chip (evo Helios H6 is the Helios chip that comes with Helios Blazebringer, not the Kolossal Helios chip). The Demise Satomb + Anubion and the Mirage Helios + Gaianon and the Kolossal Fafnir and Odax O6 seem to be Wave 2 of the dual packs, and the World Spryzen + Betromoth, Helios Blazebringer + Jormuntor, and the Origin Achilles (maybe Shield mode?) + Tyros T6 are wave 3. It seems very likely that Vex Lucius, Triumph Dragon, Infinite Achilles, and this new Curse Devolos are part of Wave 3, but after that the listings are really scattered. I've been seeing a sort of pattern that could correlate with the waves for these beys. This is probably the last news on listings for today (I'm tired lol), but there's a lot to talk about here.
![]() Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-Winding Flying TourbillonĪudemars Piguet is one of the most well-established luxury brands in the watchmaking industry. Simply put, you cannot go wrong with the Submariner. It is not just hype, though, as this automatic model has top-tier Swiss craftsmanship and aesthetics that impress. That is the power of the Rolex Submariner, which may be the most in-demand timepiece on the market. ![]() You know this watch is truly iconic when we mention it twice in the article before it even comes up as an entry. Those of you who want to spend a little less can get an entry-level automatic Pilot, while big spenders can go for the more expensive IWC Big Pilot. Another advantage is that they come at multiple price ranges. Consumers especially love the quality and the sturdiness of the materials used in IWC watches, along with everything else that IWC has to offer. IWC is quietly one of the top watch brands in the world, and the IWC Pilot collection is a bestseller of theirs. It is one of those products that you can order without any stress or fear, given its reputation and its tendency to appreciate in value. Trivia aside, this automatic watch is a fantastic deal and one of the premier icons in the horology world today. The Omega Speedmaster is often called the “Moon Watch”, as it was on the wrists of the first astronauts that went to the moon. Tudor is a sister company of Rolex, and they have created some truly amazing products over the years, with this model being their best seller. If you want a luxury automatic diver, but do not want to jump through hoops, the Tudor Black Bay is a great option. While that piece is certainly fantastic, buyers often have to wait years to get one or pay for them at a premium. One of the most sought-after watches in the world is the Rolex Submariner. Minimalist shoppers will also be happy to find that many of the automatic models in this collection sport clean, uncluttered dials. There is just something so attractive and alluring about these automatic timepieces. While this collection is very diverse, we recommend you take a look at the moon phase options first. ![]() If you want to buy an automatic watch that comes with serious craftsmanship and an elegant aesthetic, then look no further. The Longines Master is another collection that we have a special affinity for. 4157-07 8 21 05PEB, a charming green dial and bezel model which looks quite a bit like the famous Rolex “Hulk” Submariner. We especially love the Oris Aquis Date Ref. Whether you like your timepieces big, small, minimalistic, or complex, this collection will be able to meet your needs. The Oris Aquis is an automatic dive watch collection that gives you a ton of options to choose from. This Swiss manufacturer has an excellent reputation in the watch world and will not let you down. If you want to get an automatic watch that is a bit more expensive, then Oris is a natural step up. That feature makes this timepiece easy to use, as you can put it down for a couple of days and not have to reset it when you decide to wear it again. As an added bonus, it sports an impressive 80-hour power reserve, which beats out many of the pricier options on this list. It has a minimalist style, makes use of luxurious and expensive materials, and is just a joy to wear. The Tissot Powermatic is an automatic watch that we have a soft spot for. ![]() This collection breaks the mould by delivering high-quality and durable automatic watches at surprisingly low prices, making it a fantastic choice for budget shoppers. When you take that approach, the Seiko 5 immediately reveals itself to be an exceptional timepiece. Instead, we also often look at whether a watch is a “bang for your buck”, or how much value that piece has. Though this collection from Seiko cannot quite compete when you put it head to head with the others on this list, that is also not the only way we grade watches. Here’s our list of the best automatic watches available right now. With that being said, we have curated a list of the best automatic watches that are worth your while! 25 Best Automatic Watches While quartz models are unparalleled when it comes to accuracy, a good percentage of the best watches out there are actually driven by automatic movements. Being able to differentiate between these two types of timekeepers will allow you to better understand the anatomy of a watch and how it works. Quartz timepieces are powered by batteries while automatic watches are equipped with self-winding springs. Regardless, one of the first things you need to learn is the difference between automatic and quartz timepieces. If you are new to the world of watches, you will know that familiarizing yourself with the different terms can be quite a difficult task, especially since there is a certain jargon used in horology. ![]() With 238 locations predominantly in California, making up an impressive 94% of all stores nationwide, it's safe to say that most Californians have encountered, if not stepped foot in, one of these establishments. In June 2023, ranked number one this warehouse-style grocery chain that caters to both individual shoppers and small businesses with a wide range of bulk products at competitive prices. You might be surprised to learn which one got the top spot. Even so, there's something special about doing your grocery shopping the old way, isn't there? Recently, a popular online platform made a list of the top 10 best bargain grocery stores in Los Angeles, based on customer reviews. “I’m going to get more of those cookies rn,” she texted. If you live in Los Angeles and do not possess a magic pantry that refills itself - you most likely do your grocery shopping just like the rest of us! You've probably seen how grocery shopping has changed, with more and more people switching from real-life shopping carts to digital ones on smartphone apps. My mom recently sent me a photo of a receipt in which the $3.97 she spent on two bars of chocolate and three packs of cookies was dwarfed by the $13.98 in savings. At the bottom of every receipt, in bold, you’ll find the amount that you allegedly saved by shopping at GOBM instead of a mainstream supermarket. That eclecticism is part of the appeal, and the rush of the fleeting deal is baked right into the premise. “There’s certain things I know they’re going to have regularly,” he says, “but mostly it’s a fun trip to see what’s in stock this week.” For Richdale, who lives in San Francisco, jaunts to his neighborhood Grocery Outlet supplement trips to the farmers market, food co-op, and Bi-Rite. Go in with a list of ingredients for a specific recipe, and you will likely need to hit up a second store to fill in the gaps. You will always find butter (in more conventional increments) at GOBM, as well as milk, eggs, produce, an impressive selection of organic foods, and alcohol, in the states that permit it. Sure, the butter came in 100 individually wrapped pats, but what’s a little inconvenience in the face of such a deal? In a coup that has become part of family lore, my mom once scored 2.2 pounds of Kerrygold butter for the unbeatable price of $3.99. New stock comes in daily and quantities are finite, so if you don’t want to miss out on the 99-cent smoked salmon, you need to be in the right place (aisle 5) at the right time. The store rewards these frequent visits, as well as “GOBM tourism” to other franchised locations with different goods. This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. That’s literally a small price to pay for something that could possibly be good (although probably not). Maybe there’s no room in your budget for ice cream, unless that ice cream is stout-chocolate-pretzel Häagen-Dazs, and it’s only ten cents. But a scavenger hunt through Grocery Outlet’s aisle is an exercise in joy. With inflation at its highest rate in forty years, consumers are streamlining shopping lists-we have less discretionary budget for silly little snacks and impulse buys when the price of eggs is up 33% year over year. A carton of plain Greek yogurt could still be cheaper than at your local market, but it’s the tub of matcha coconut yogurt that will be a downright steal. While GOBM offers pantry staples, I’m drawn to its frivolous, cheap thrills. This includes food close to its expiration date and seasonal items that are no longer in season: Expect lots of candy cane-flavored everything come February. Its business model is built on opportunistic buying GOBM takes surplus goods off the hands of mainstream grocery stores at bargain basement prices, passing those savings along to the customer. ![]() ![]() GOBM (as it is known in my family) originated in San Francisco in the 1940’s and has since expanded to seven other states. If those toys were food items, they would find themselves at Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, a supermarket franchise that I love with the passion some people exhibit for K Pop idols, or Disney. Each possesses a flaw that, while seemingly minor, relegates it to the island, unwanted and unloved. There’s the train set with square wheels, the squirt gun that shoots not water but jelly, the unfortunately named Charlie-in-the-box. ![]() On the Island of Misfit Toys, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer encounters a forlorn community of would-be Christmas gifts. ![]()
